Athens/Piraeus, Greece »   9 pm
Piraeus is Greece's largest port and has been a gateway to the Mediterranean since 482 BC. It lies on the innermost point of the Saronic Gulf and is a short drive from Athens, the cradle of Western democracy and culture. Throughout the ages, Athens' lofty Acropolis has been a source of inspiration. The ancient ruins scattered throughout this legendary city are reminders of Greece's great cultural heritage.

Paros Island, Greece » 9 am 9 pm

Located in the heart of the Aegean Sea, picture-perfect Paros is exactly what you would imagine a Greek island to be. A maze of narrow alleyways and classic Cycladic architecture with its white, cube-shaped homes accented by blue doors and windows are a siren call for amateur photographers, history buffs and romantics. Make your way up to the 13th-century Venetian castle that sits at the top of the hill and be rewarded with a view that rivals that of Mount Olympus. One of the most appealing aspects of Paros is the lack of modern buildings to spoil the island’s authentic character, helping this gem of an island stay true to its mythical beauty. A short drive will take you to the charming white-washed village of Naouse where you can not only stroll amongst some of the chic boutiques but can also find some typical Greek tavernas, complete with drying octopus as decoration, just as in the movies.

Patmos, Greece » 8 am 2 pm

Considered the " Jerusalem of the Aegean," the Greek isle of Patmos has a rich Christian heritage. The Monastery of Saint John was founded in 1088 and is a UNESCO World Heritage site, as is the Cave of the Apocalypse, the grotto where John the Apostle received the visions he recorded in the Book of Revelation. The Patmian School, a noted Greek seminary, is also located on the island.

Deep Christian roots make Patmos a destination for pilgrims, while the island's white-sand beaches, secluded coves and beautiful marina make it a popular destination for worshippers of the sun.

Oct 23, Tuesday
Bodrum, Turkey (overnight) » 7 pm

Bodrum is a popular destination for jet-setters, Turkish intellectuals and European vacationers who enjoy sandy beaches, sheltered coves, clear, warm waters and a touch of sophistication. Indeed, the city has long been a gathering place for artists and a magnet for yachtsmen.

While the bustling harbor welcomes visitors to Bodrum's shores, the city's interesting attractions invite them to explore. The Castle of St. Peter was built by the Knights of Rhodes in 1402 and boasts grand stone staircases, impressive towers and gardens populated by peacocks, statues, mosaics and sarcophagi. From the castle's courtyard, magnificent views of the town and bay are to be admired and captured with a few clicks of the camera. The Museum of Marine Antiquities showcases the world's largest collection of artifacts retrieved from ancient shipwrecks. And the waters surrounding the city offer scuba diving, with chances to see the coral beds and natural sea sponges for which the area is famous.

You should not miss the sailing through the almost hidden entrance into beautiful Marmaris Bay. Backed by mountains covered with pine trees and topped with a 16th-century castle, Marmaris makes a spectacular first impression. But Marmaris is more than just a pretty face. This Mediterranean resort town sizzles with activity from morning to evening—and evening to morning. Sunbathing and diving along the beach and harbor, bargain shopping in the colorful bazaar and clubbing in the sprawling outdoor dance clubs are activities that keep travelers entertained and engaged around the clock. Marmaris is that rare, magical place where you can step back in time, and step onto the dance floor, all in the same day.

Kas, Turkey » 8 am 8 pm

When you think scuba diving, chances are you think the Caribbean. Yet the Mediterranean also hosts its share of premier dive sites, including off the shores of Kas, Turkey. Situated on the Turquoise Coast, Kas (pronounced “cash”) enjoys classically beautiful Mediterranean weather with air perfumed by jasmine, orange blossoms and, in the hills above, pine trees. In the ocean’s depths are some fifty prime dive spots, many with impressive wrecks, both natural and artificial. If dipping into the local culture is more your speed, there are several impressive sites to choose from; in both directions. The former Roman city of Patara lies just to the west and has been magnificently restored and is well worth your visit. Bring your swim suit as the beach is just a short stroll away. If you travel to the east you can discover, by boat, the no less impressive sunken Lycian town of Kekova. Do not forget to leave time, especially in the evening, and simply wander the charming town of Kas, stepping through the bougainvillea-framed doorways of shops, restaurants and cafés for some food and local color.

Oct 27, Saturday
Paphos, Cyprus » 12 n 9 pm

Steeped in mythological history, Paphos offers an abundance of architectural wonders. In fact, the entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the treasures not to be missed are the spectacular mosaics unearthed in the House of Dionysus, charming Omodos Village and the solid rock catacombs of the Tombs of the Kings. Paphos is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Her spirit lives on in the ancient ruins and temples, as well as the modern harbor and sun-splashed beaches where love is always in the air. Once you have discovered the sites beyond Paphos, you will find the palm-lined waterfront promenade most inviting for a stroll.
